Keeping up with Microsoft 365’s evergreening approach can be challenging, whether you are an M365 administrator, responsible for change management and user adoption, an M365 end-user – or even a Microsoft consultant. Of course there is the great Microsoft 365 roadmap website. But things get updated, rescheduled, cancelled and added all the time. So even by using the RSS feed, it can be cumbersome to track the progress of certain items. And it might does not tell you when exactly a change or new feature really has been deployed to your tenant.
You can check this part in the Message Center within the Microsoft 365 admin center. It provides you with more details, status and impact for all the changes that will come (or already came) to your tenant. And the Planner sync-feature is great to give it a little bit more structure and make it easier to follow-up on the topics. But as much as we love Microsoft Planner, it is not everyone’s favorite and some might lack some functionality like search or “topic-based notifications”.
Don't have time to go through all this text? We got you covered! Just click below to directly jump to the download section!
Here is where our M365 Roadmap Radar comes into play. It pulls the information from both of these sources, the M365 roadmap AND the Message Center, and combines them into one central place – a dedicated SharePoint list – with all relevant details in a structured way.
The M365 Roadmap Radar does not simply create new items every time something changes. Instead it checks if an item already exists and then updates it accordingly, independently whether the update comes from the roadmap or the message center. So you can easily track back with roadmap item a new message center entry relates to.
It also comes with a neat subscription feature, so you get notified automatically for any updates - and not for all changes in M365, but only for the services you have subscribed to!
And it’s a SharePoint list - or a couple of them. You can use search, add additional search capabilities on top, add your own views and columns as you want. For example, we use Modern PnP search webparts on top ourselves, we have customers that have added additional columns to mark items that could be relevant for additional compliance or data protections processes.
Additionally, the M365 Roadmap Radar includes a couple of flows to keep the lists up-to-date. It also provides you with a neat option to subscribe to updates - and to choose the M365 services you are interested in. So you will only get automatic mail notifications for the relevant services.
We have paid particular attention NOT to use any premium connectors nor any other features that would require dedicated Power Automate licenses. So your “standard” M365 E3/E5-licenses should work just fine.
Have we piqued your interest? Just download the package for the M365 Roadmap radar below. It comes with a setup documentation giving you a step-by-step guidance what you have to do to get it working for you. We tried to make this as simple as possible for you. It shouldn’t take you longer than 10 – 20 minutes to put it to use.
As you might have expected, there is a small disclaimer. We provide the package as-is and we are happy to provide it to you for free. But even though we have tested it thoroughly, we can’t ensure that it works on every tenant right away and we will not – and simply cannot – provide any guarantees, warranty or support. But we don’t expect you to need any support anyways.
We know, it's not perfect, but we hope it gives you your starting point. And most importantly, have some fun with it! :-)
